Life...

Life has a funny way of moving us along. There are no directions, no user manual but yet somehow we seem to manage. There are those of us who rely on the lord for direction or guidance if you will. Still, somehow we never quite know what’s coming up ahead.  Recently a couple friends of mine have decided to get married. One fairly new acquaintance and one long time Jr High friend.  I’m very happy for them both but there is still something inside of me that isn’t sitting quite right. Now there is no time table for when a person should marry or even if that is the right thing to do, however, personally I still feel empty. Not to say my life is boring by any means, it’s far from it. Work is great and I’ll be finished with BYU in April and life seems to be moving in the right direction yet something still seems to be missing.  Our life’s journey can be compared to an ocean, where there is no end in sight. We climb aboard the boat and set sail on an adventure to the vast unknown, yet sometimes we run into storms and may be washed ashore. When this happens the question becomes, what do we do next?

The air is moist and heavy
the waves splash against the shore
A vast magnificent ocean stands before me
I gaze far off into the distance

I notice something coming towards me
As it gets closer it takes the shape of a boat
I wait for a period of time but when
the moment arrives… it disappears!
I wonder, what just happened?
when I feel a tap on my shoulder
I turn around to find a long lost memory.

Do we take the time to sit and wonder all life has to offer or are we too busy running as fast as we can to get off the island and back onto the water?

The Game

My life seems to be going the way it should, however, the game is beginning to tire me out. Ya'll know what I'm talking about. The never-ending 1st dates associated with the "dating game". This heart wrenching roller coaster takes it passengers on an up, down, side-to-side curving adventure which ultimately leaves the participant tried and sick.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve met a bunch of beautiful, attractive, intelligent women but I still have yet to find the “one”. The one who knows exactly what to say, the one who you wish could stay, the one who takes over your dreams, the one who takes your breath away, the one you just cant’ get enough of!

I’ve learned a lot from this so-called dating game. We all know you have to ‘be yourself’, be careful not to say or do too much to fast, don’t forget to be considerate and affectionate yet mysterious and allusive. It seems to me that women just don’t really know what they want. They tell you to be open and up front with them, but lets face it when it gets down to it they want a challenge. They want to chase you! Just as you want to chase them.

Amidst all this game playing, how does anyone get together? You see it all over college campuses, inside malls, parks and other recreation areas. People are holding hands, kissing and loving each other, but where does that come from? Experience teaches that love is nothing but a “battlefield” as Jordan Sparks put it.

A guy may do everything perfect, treat her with respect & all she has ever dreamed of yet she still says something to the effect of “It’s just not there” or the infamous line “let’s just be friends”. I’ve experienced the whole range of these non-explanatory lines women use on men. I believe women are scared of the upcoming commitment to the relationship and because she’s not sure about you, she would rather give you the boot and leave her options open. I’ve spent time figuring out what exactly women are looking for in a relationship and it just doesn’t seem to make any sense. Sure, you can ask a woman out, go on several dates, show her fun, romance, and a new world but she still bolts. What’s with that?

Thankfully there a lot of fish in the sea, just keep pulling them out and sending back until you find the one who fits You!
